Goujata is an organization that promotes farmers; especially small scale ones, to adopt cow-based farming, a traditional farming system that was widely practiced in India earlier. Desi cattle have been a part of Indian lifestyle since ages unknown. They have helped in farms to plough, on roads to carry loads and at homes with milk, besides satisfying several other needs in day to day life. The cow dung and urine also serve as bonus benefits. However, with the introduction of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and hormones, almost all the farmers of the country have shifted from cow based natural farming to chemically laden farming. With a hardworking and dedicated team, our focus is to market the products from such farmers, on spreading the practices of cow based organic farming, saving their lands from infertility and get their produce the right price so that they are able to compete in the market. We intend to make a start towards a healthier life that benefits us as well as the hardworking farmers who break their backs to feed us. We at Goujata believe in working with the nature and not against it. In this process, we strive towards making a world that is well-sustained and in sync with the needs of the environment and humans. You can join us in this journey by helping us bettering our lives and that of the farmers.
Our vision is to support farmers to revive traditional cow based natural farming without fertilizers, pesticides and hormones and help getting urban consumers access to such produce.
We act as the supply chain hub to connect the farmers, doing cow based farming, and urban consumers willing to buy their produce. We personally visit the farmers to motivate them, ensure that they follow traditional cow-based farming, procure at the right price to make them regain confidence in such farming practices, take care of the supply chain of the produce to ensure no chemical is used for pest control during storage and transportation and pack the products with environment friendly material.
It is now well known that the application of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and hormones in the long run will not only ruin the land but is also the reason behind many modern day diseases. However, farm production increases with the application of these substances. Therefore, most of the farmers are not willing to change over to traditional farming practices with the fear of making loss. Besides, the farmers who do change over to cow based farming practices are struggling to get organic certification due to the following three reasons: 1. It takes minimum three years to reduce the existing chemical traces in a field to the acceptable level to get the organic certification. 2. Farmers with small patches of land are susceptible to get chemical traces from the nearby lands making it even longer to get the certification. 3. Cost of certification is quite high for individual small scale farmers.
